The Catalog of Reminiscence

The Invitation for Cycling by Mr.Gami

Part 68: Sunstar bicycle in 1950s

Here is the catalog of Sunstar which was published around 1955.
First cycling boom had happened in those days; and large bicycle maker began announcing touring-bicycle which was equipped with exterior derailleur. However, touring bicycle of those days was too expensive to common people. Therefore they borrow rental bicycle which was provided by bicycle maker (the fee for rent was 400 yen a day), and enjoyed cycling.

The catalog of Sunstar begins from second photo. It was a guidebook about Cycling and touring-bicycle more than a catalog. This time I didn't write comment. Please read the contents by yourself.
The catalog was made more than 50 years ago. Therefore the pages were already deteriorated. I tried to retouch the image; I'm very sorry if it still be hard to look.
However, it's amazing because this kind of old catalog has been kept preciously.

The catalog was offered by Mr. N. M

This photo is the front cover of the April 1957 issue of Cycle magazine which is oldest magazine I have and advertisement of Sunstar. Cycle magazine was a former magazine of present New cycling magazine. Mr. Imai who was a chief editor of New cycling magazine had been working at there.

980M on the ad was a model which was introduced at the end of the catalog as "special maniac type". It was composed of Unno D2*D2 (called D by D) Cr-Mo tube (lug-less frame) and exterior 3-speed derailleur, and the weight was 12.4 kg. It was the highest grade model in those days.
