Part 48: Sugino Engineering in 1982

Here is the catalog of Sugino Techno in 1982. Sugino Engineering had changed the company name to Sugino Techno in this year. Back in those days, the aerodynamics boom had happened in Japan because of the announcement of Shimano AX in the previous year. You will see the effect of this boom in the catalog.

The catalog was offered by Mr. F. K.

Here is the front cover.
Guines which was produced for commemoration of the new company name was decorating the cover. Guines had been sold only 1,000 set to 72 nations in the world. There was an advertisement of Guines in the June 1982 issue of New Cycling magazine. It explained below.

1. Maker's suggesting price is 110,000 yen.
2. Serial number is stamped to the crank.
3. Owner name will be registered and preserved permanently in the head office of Sugino.
4. Special-super-super duralumin and titanium are used as a material.

Here were products. Those were divided into four groups such as the racing model, the touring and 10-speed model, the BMX chain-wheel, and the BMX stem.

1. The racing model
Aero-Mighty was the highest grade model. There were AS and GS as inferior models of Aero-Mighty. All of them had streamline arms.

2. The touring model
AT which was PCD 110-74 mm, GT which was a reasonable model of AT, and PX which was often used for mass-production randonneur were put in the lineup. AT was a forerunner of professional chain-wheel of MTB. It was equipped with the PCD 74 mm special mount on the back side of the PCD 110 mm 5 arms which was direct descendant of Mighty-Tour. Therefore it could be equipped with minimum 24T sprocket. We can say that AT was prototype model of subsequent chain-wheels for BMX of each maker.
PX which had five pins was familiar to veteran cyclist. A ring of PX was interchangeable with a ring of TA Cyclo-Tourist, and Storonglight 49D. The form of chain ring was almost same as TA Cyclo-Tourist.

3. The BMX model
