I received a precious article (Le Monde illustre “Des Fils de Peugeot Freres) and two advertisement about Peugeot which are issued around 1914 from a French friend.

This article admired the cooperation of Peugeot to the war effort from the patriotism. I could understand about the presence of Peugeot and atomosphere of France of those days.

As I wrote in "The history of Peugeot" , Peugeot stoped the manufacture of products during First Wold War, and produced airplane engine, military vehicle, and artillery shell.

Patriotism of Peugeot appeared on the frame sticker of Arc-enciel which admired the victory at World Bicycle Championship of a French athlete, on the fact that Peugoet continued to use French bicycle parts and French standard until around the end of 1970s. I suppose that Peugeot lost identity because the company began to use Italian and Japanese parts from first of 1980s.

前回に続き、フランスの知人からプジョーの工場について１９１４年頃に発行された貴重な記事(le Monde illustre "Des Fils de Peugeot Freres）と同時代の広告２点を頂きました。

この記事は、プジョー社の仏政府に対する戦争協力（第一次世界大戦）を称えた愛国的な内容で、当時のフランス国内の雰囲気とプジョー社の位置づけがよく判ります。

プジョー社の歴史に記載したように、戦争中、同社は本来の生産ラインをストップし、代わりに軍用飛行機のエンジン・軍用トラック・砲弾などを生産することで、国家に協力していました。

プジョー社のこのような愛国的側面は、プジョーの自転車に乗っていたわけでもない仏選手の世界選手権優勝を祝してアルカンシェル・ストライプをフレームに飾ったり、７０年代まで自国の規格と部品を採用し続けたという事実にも現れています。 余談ですが、プジョー社は８０年代に入ってイタリアや日本の部品を使用するようになり、そのアイデンティティを喪失したと言ってよいかと思います。

The factories The Sons of Peugeot Brothers make two important agglomerations of the department of Doubs live. They occupy a staff of more than 3,000 workers and their stores are unique.

プジョー社の工場は、スイス国境に近いフランス東部のドウの２か所の産業集積地に設けられた。 それらの工場では、3000人の労働者が働いていた。工場の供給は独特であった。

プジョー社の工場は、その製品に対する特別な評判ゆえに、世界の主要都市に知られるようになり、ライオン・プジョーはそのシンボルとなった。その誇り高いイラストを知らない労働者や主婦はいなかった。

At the beginning of hostilities, all the activity, all means of production of the Society The Son of Peugeot Brothers have been put exclusively to the service of the National Defense. 戦争初期（第一次世界大戦）、プジョー社のすべての活動と製造意義は優先的に国防に置かれた。 しかし、工場がその当初の目的を達成すれば、この古参のライオンは戦争に勝利するために必要とされた兵器の製造をから退き、平和を達成するための武器を製造するという名誉ある場所に立ち戻るだろう。
