The Catalog of Reminiscence

The Invitation for Cycling by Mr.Gami

Part 112: Tokyo Cicycling Center in 1963

This time I would like to introduce the general catalogue of Tokyo Cycling Center which was issued in 1963.

Tokyo Cycling Center was tailor-made sports bicycle shop in Tokyo which was established in 1955. The original brand of the shop was Zephyr. It is very sorry that the shop ceased the business on December 28, 2008.

I began to be fascinated the cycling on autumn of 1972 when I was third grade of junior high school. There was several numbers of specialty shop which sold tailor-made sports bicycle in those days. I was especially impressed in Tokyo Cycling Center because of its atmosphere, advertisement in New Cycling magazine, and personality of the owner Mr. Itakura.
I hadn’t ordered a bicycle. However, I had consulted with Mr. Itakura about bicycle parts and purchase of New Cycling magazine. It was very interested in topics of hobby of bicycle and cycling culture by Mr. Itakura.

This catalogue introduces the line-up of Zephyr, several parts, and accessories. TOEI which was produced frame of Zephyr was introduced on the last page.

I supposed this catalogue was issued on 1963, because of standard price list of Zephyr as of July 1 of Showa period on the last page.

I posted each page at below. However, I didn't put my comment. The letters in the catalog might be too small. So I prepared E-book. You can turn each page as real catalog, and zoom it. URL is below. Note: advertisement which doesn't relate to the catalog would appear because I use free service.

The scan image of this catalogue was given by some reader of my web site. The reader got the original catalogue at his youth, keeps preciously until now. I didn’t retouch the scan image. Because I imagined from the yellowish paper and the trace of scotch tape that the reader had to made those of insignificant damages during reading it time after time. I think you might have such experience. I’m one of them. I hope that you taste the atmosphere of those old days.
