The Catalog of Reminiscence

The Invitation for Cycling by Mr.Gami

Part 10: Suntour in 1975

Here is the English catalog of Suntour in 1975. Suntour has a lot of fan even now. The company name in Japanese was Maeda Kogyo. The catalog was issued at the time of announcing the first Cyclone front and rear derailleur and an aluminum free-wheel Winner in the previous year, and Suntour had begun to follow the way to the high-class parts maker.
I myself also selected Cyclone for Katakura Silk road-racing bicycle which was my first custom-made bicycle. I still keep them preciously.
Rear derailleur V-luxe and V-GT, front derailleur Spurt and Compe-V, light-pulled power lever, perfect free-wheel were used for a lot of mass-production sports bicycle. So those of parts must be familiar to a number of people. Three speeds flash type free and interior hub were nostalgic.

Here is the front cover and back cover.
Suntour was a brand name. The company name was Maeda industries ltd. The photos of the back cover were the head office at Sakai city Osaka, and the factories at Shiga prefecture, Mihara city, and USA.

This is the left side of the centerfold. I think I don't need to explain to senior cyclists. The rear derailleur of the upper left was a lightweight model Cyclone (175 gram). Next to it was familiar model V-luxe.
As for Winner aluminum freewheel of the middle, the annotation was saying "Recommended for only racing".

This is the right side of the centerfold.
The second model from the upper left was Skitter which was a standard model for reasonable sports bicycle of those days. It was low-normal model and regulated both the pantograph and the tension by one spring. I didn't know if it was the reason of the easy broken spring.
On the right side, the catalog was explaining about the power-sifter which a pull was light and was easy to use. However, I used to be suffering from a small spring which ricocheted from inside when I decomposed and cleaned it. There might be a number of cyclists who had experienced same trouble.
