The Catalog of Reminiscence

The Invitation for Cycling by Mr.Gami

Part 64: Katakura Silk Sports Cycle 1983

Here is the catalog of Katakura Silk sports cycle in 1983. The traditional models such as R2 road-racer, R1 track-racer, and SC15 camping were still on the catalog.
The catalog introduced balanced sports bicycles which were composed of well-made frame and simplicity, fortitude parts. There must have been a number of cyclists who entered in the cycling world with a bicycle in this catalog.

The catalog was offered by Mr. I. K.

This is the front cover.
It was suitable for Katakura Silk, because they selected R2 which was a long-term seller model in the front page instead of the highest model R2-X.

The photos of traditional model R2 road-racer and R1 track-racer were bigger than the photo of the highest model R2-XS road-racer. Each of model number were R2-A and R1-A.
R2-XS was equipped with Shimano DA set. R2-A was equipped with the parts of Suntour, Sugino, Yoshigai.

Gloire was an inferior model of R2.
Deluxe type RA-G was equipped with the parts of Suntour.
RB-G was equipped with Shimano 105. The special frame works were also slightly different between them.
A small frame size for woman was prepared.

Here were Sportif and Touring bicycles which were composed of typical parts of those days (sportif was equipped with Sugino PX triple). Both of models were similar to custom bicycle, because of a pipe carrier; direct attached center-pulled brake for Sportif model; a direct attaching headlight and leather saddle for touring model.

SC15 Camping model which was a traditional model of Silk was introduced in this page along with Lady Sports and 22 inch, 24 inch Mini Sports which were limited models.
As for Camping model, rear pannier carrier was an optional part. However, it was equipped with the side bags which were made of canvas as standard items and Mafac Criterium cantilever brakes. I think that it had been the finest model as mass-production Camping bicycle after all.

Here was the model Silk Road which was classified into beginner model "49,800 yen series" of mass-production bicycle. Silk Road was an opponent model of BS Road-man, Miyata Jeunesse, National (present name; Panasonic) La-Scorsa.
Carriers, bags, electric equipments, and several small parts were prepared as optional parts (see below).
