The Catalog of Reminiscence

The Invitation for Cycling by Mr.Gami

Part 98 Huret in 1980's

There is no issue date on the catalog. I suppose it might be published during 1980’s because of the models of derailleur which are introduced in the catalog. Huret was bought by Sachs on the end of 1980’s. So I think this catalog was published on the middle of 1980’s.

Some reference book says that Huret began producing derailleur from 1930.The bicycle which Louison Bobet won the championship three years in a row at Tour de France was equipped with derailleur of Huret.

I began bicycle as a hobby on 1972. The Jubilee which is popular even now was put on sale in those days. I saw it first time at some shop in Kisshoji, was surprised on its beautiful finishing and expensive price which junior high school boy never be able to pay.

Back in those days, it was the golden age of trip bicycle which equipped with French parts. I was rather an enthusiast of Simplex, however, had used Allvit and Svelto for short term. Catalog size is A5, has 10 pages including front and back covers. The images below are pages after front cover.

Jubilee FD/RD, Success RD, Super Success RD, Allvit RD, Success Duopar FD are introduced in the page. In this era, only the tension pulley which is underside has ball bearing. Bracket and pantograph of Allvit were caulked, could not take them apart. Pulley cage was a type which was reinforced underside.

Mechanical linkage was installed to Duopar, can adjusts to big sprocket. Allvit on leftside is equipped with special cage plate which prevent chain whip. Allvit on center is equipped with long cage which can adjust to wide ratio.

Challenger II FD/RD, shift levers for Jubilee and Duopar, shift levers of Luxe, Club II FD are introduced in the page. Challenger is economy model of Success. Club II seems to be descended from Allvit.

The page explains about Challenger II sift lever, Positive selection lever of latchet type which is mounted on stem, and position adjustment plate of rear derailleur.

Several speed meters are introduced in the page. However, two speed meters on the bottom of page seems not for bicycle.

This page introduces small parts such as rear end, wire lead, wing nut, spoke protector, and driving gear for speed meter.

Brake, brake lever, freewheel, and belt-type driving cyclometer are introduced in the page. Brake seems to be descended from CLB. I had used this cyclometer.

Two types of chain wheel, seat post, quill pedal are introduced in the page. Chain wheel of five arms is Italian design; however, it is messy because of lots of pin. Seat post which fix with two bolts is original design.

Quick release hub is introduced in the last page as new product.
