The Catalog of Reminiscence

The Invitation for Cycling by Mr.Gami

Part 55: 3ttt (tecno tubo torino) in 1978

Here is the catalog of Italian parts maker 3ttt in 1978. There's no date of issue in the catalog. However, I checked Cycle Sports magazine special number "All Catalog" and surmised that it might have been issued in 1978, because the road racing stem mod.78 and new seat post appeared in that year. I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding.

The road racing stem "mod.1" had been used for Colnago, De Rosa, and Bianchi. The slender stem that the brand name of each company was engraved had different formative beauty from CINELLI 1/A. The saddle was also used for Italian road-racing bicycle along with UNICA.

Nowadays, 3ttt seems to be called 3T. 3ttt is familiar brand in the professional competition as a maker of handlebar and stem which represent Italia along with ITM and CINELLI.

This catalog is a centerfold, A4 size. I show all 12 pages including the front cover.

The catalog was offered by Mr. Jey.

This is the front cover.

I don't know Italian language. It is the introduction of the company?

These are road-racing handlebars of "Record Grand Prix" and "Record Competizione". "Grand Prix" was the ferrule type and "Competizione" was the bulge type. The catalog explained that the thermosetting processing was applied to "Competizione".

These are lightweight model "Record Competizione Super Leggero" and track-racing model "Record Competizione". The weight of "Super Leggero" (super light) was 200 grams. That was real weight?

These are road-racing model Record Strada (road) and track-racing model Record Pista.

Record Strada "mod.1" was a typical road-racing stem of those days along with CINELLI 1/A. Its cross-section surface of the extension was almost triangle.

"mod.78" was the competing product of CINELLI Record?

"Record Regolabile (adjustable)" could adjust the extension. "Record Doppio Girevole (double revolving)" could upturn the cramp. Expander bolt set and cramp bolt set were also introduced in this page.

The handlebars of "Record Competizione", "Record Super Leggero", and "Record Grand Prix" were introduced in this page. There were the several words such as "Tour de France", "Franco-Belge", "Gimondi", and "Merckx", in the explanation of "Competizione". However, I thought that there were difference of length and shape about the reach and the drop.

The stem "tourist", several kinds of flat handlebar for general bicycle, and the brake lever for flat handlebar were introduced in this page.

Unexpectedly, there were various shapes of flat handlebar.

These are seat post and several kinds of plastic saddle.

This seat post had been introduced in New Cycling magazine of 1974 as a new product.

As for the saddle, the plastic, the calfskin (not pad), the buckskin (no pad), and the lightweight buckskin (with pad) were prepared in the lineup.

This was a new seat post Criterium. It was so-called "Laprade type", had single bolt for fixing a saddle.

The length of seat post was shorter than present seat post.

Criterium Competizione also seemed a new product in this catalog. It was made of buckskin with pad.

It must have been aluminum wire base because of the word "Super Leggero" (super light).

This is the back cover.
